Hello Bid Members,
2018 is full steam ahead. Attending the recent Bristol Annual Tourism Conference highlighted how as a high street we can take on board current and future trends. It’s all about authenticity, experiences, culture and accessibility for an aging population. An example of a local successful experience was the Wreath Making Drop In organised by GRBID in December 2017 at the Gallimaufry – here’s what James Koch the owner said
“It was an unbelievable atmosphere – true community spirit, and we were the busiest we have ever been on a Saturday at 5:30pm! We had 60 wreath makers on the terrace all having fun; drinking and making. All age groups including 80 year-old-ladies, families, students, men, couples. It was great to see such a broad range of our community all sharing tables and chatting. We’re looking forward to hosting similar events in the future”
Experiences are the way to go! Whether it’s a community sing along such as at Café Ronak’s recent event or a nude dining experience at Flour & Ash or even organising authentic moments such as ‘be a pub landlord’ – create them and tie them in with themes and local events. And add them to Visit Bristol’s event page …it’s free to do – www.visitbristol.co.uk/information/submit-event and don’t forget to share them on our social media pages.
Keep informed and enjoy the read!

As part of commitment to bringing street art to the area – we are working in partnership with Raw Space to bring a second mural to the area.
Putting in to action the notes taking from the Tourism Conference, we are working on bringing a variety of regular tours to the area. This may include:
Charity Shop tours
We’ll keep you posted and if you have any other ideas or have something planned please email email@example.com
This year we are working on finding parking solutions for traders based on your feedback. We are also working on delivering clearer signage on the parking meters reminding the public they have 30 minutes free parking.
We’ll keep you posted.
BRISTOL COUNCIL FREE COMMUNITY TOILET SCHEME – The Community Toilet Scheme is for businesses and organisations that are happy to allow members of the public to use their toilet facilities. Our thought is that places that already provide facilities such as the library, pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants are probably already doing this….so why not apply and get a sticker to highlight that.

BISHOPSTON WINDOW WANDERLAND 2018 We are thrilled to be sponsoring it and at least 20 traders that we know of are signed up to either create or host window displays – the District is going to look magical. It’s great to be working again with local schools and groups who are creating displays to support the BID traders.
Each year approximately 3000 people walk the trail using maps which will be available from some of our traders from 19th Feb. It’s a great occasion for our food & drink outlets to feed the hungry wanderers so if you decide to do a Window Wanderland Special then let us know so that we can publicise it for you!
This event is growing in popularity with Window Wanderlands happening in lots of other areas of Bristol, nationally and even internationally. TRADER SPOTLIGHT – MARC WHITE LL.B. SOLICITOR & NOTARY PUBLIC
48 Gloucester Road
ESTABLISHED We’ve been based on the Gloucester Road for many years, previously as the Law Shop and now as Marc White & Co. Marc has been working as a solicitor and notary for over 20 years.
TALKING SHOP We are a law firm specialising in Wills, probate and Lasting Powers of Attorney / Court of Protection. Our aim is to provide an independent and professional service. Much of our work involves assisting people with the interaction between English law and foreign laws. It’s increasingly common to come across an asset located overseas when dealing with an estate. Marc is a notary public which means he is qualified to prepare and certify deeds and other documents, internationally. In all cases we aim to translate our experience into a plain-speaking service which is clear on costs.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU WERE GROWING UP? A scuba diver – but no-one took me seriously when I said I wanted to make a career of it. Remembering what that felt like helps me manage my four kids and their rush to grow up too.
SO WHY LAW? I realised that my love of languages could be paired with something vocational, so I studied Law & French at Cardiff University with a one year placement in Nantes. The thing I enjoy about law now is that I am able to really help people – sounds cheesy but it’s true. People come to us with a problem, and we help them fix it, as simply as we can.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU ALONG THE WAY? Using my languages was always the aim so it was an amazing experience to be able to spend time studying in France. I have worked in many other countries including Canada, Australia, Switzerland, and New Zealand. I lived in Spain from 2003 – 2008 and now we work a lot in Spain and have an office there too, so it’s a great combination of languages and law. I still enjoy travelling as part of my job
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT We work with a number of charities to support them, either through fund raising or support in kind. We aim to get involved in any local events to support the community, and opened our doors for a Macmillan coffee morning in October 2017. We hope that people will
realise that they can pop in and ask us questions if they need to – we all live nearby and it’s important to us to be a part of the community. I grew up in Horfield / Golden Hill so I haven’t come very far.
BID MEMBER OFFERS We help with a range of issues, so whatever your legal problem, please get
in touch with us for a confidential, no-obligation consultation.
Want to feature as Trader Spotlight? We have spaces from April 2018. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org
